Why These Transfer Windows Are So Important

The recent release of the 2022/23 Premier League fixtures has helped fans all over the world plan out their favourite team’s upcoming season. For the clubs, however, the fixture list has highlighted the importance of harnessing the potential that these transfer windows have to offer.

The Premier League fixtures aren’t the problem – it’s the national responsibilities woven within the crevice of each league gameweek. You can practically already see the smoke coming out of Jurgen Klopp’s ears.
While the season begins with single fixture weeks, from PL 5 to PL 16 the season is riddled with double fixture matchweeks split between domestic matches and international duty.
This is followed by a month load World Cup campaign, a one week rest is followed by a double matchweek for the next three weeks, as the European campaigns begin and continue throughout the week.
Long story short – that’s a ton of fixtures – probably too many to fit into a year.
This means that the name of the game in both this pre-season window and the January transfer window is squad depth. It’s all nice and dandy to be signing £100m strikers, the club that will achieve the most will be the club that arms itself to the teeth with players.
So whilst Arsenal are turning a lot of heads in splashing £35m on Fabio Vieira and a potential £30m on Lisandro Martinez, Arteta and Edu are making sure that what proved to be the downfall of the 2021/22 season is one of the strengths of the 2022/23 season. The possible signings of Gabriel Jesus, Youri Tielemans and whichever other additions to the Emirates Stadium Edu deems fit will only bolster our chances of making the Top 4.
